The curricula and materials shall represent all levels of difficulty, with diversity of appeal and presentation of different points of view.

To this end, the Acton Elementary School accepts its responsibility to:

A. Provide curricula that meet the needs of students with varied interests, abilities, and

                maturity levels;

B. Provide curricula that represent a logical progression of learning in the basic skills

    and allied arts such as music, art, etc.;

C. Provide curricula that will stimulate growth in factual knowledge, literary

     appreciation, aesthetic values, and ethical standards;

D. Provide students with information and experiences which will enable them to make

     intelligent judgments in their daily lives; and

E. Provide materials that will enrich and support curricula, taking into consideration

     varied interests, abilities, and maturity levels of each student.

It is understood that the final authority for approving curricula and materials rests with the Acton School Committee. At no time will the wishes of one child's parents or those of any

group infringe on the curricular programs developed by school professional personnel as delegated by the School Committee.

Authority for the selection of classroom instructional materials rests with the Superintendent/Principal who may involve members of the community, the administration, and professional staff in

the process of selecting materials to recommend to the School Committee for approval.
